Melissa Bowman MS, RN, PPCNP-BC

Ms. Bowman is an upstate New York native who began her journey in Nursing as an adult learner pursuing a second career. Fascinated by biology with a strong desire to help people, she discovered that a career in Nursing was a perfect fit.

Melissa earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at State University of New York College at Brockport in 2007. Her passion for pediatric nursing led her to pursue a position as a RN at Golisano Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester. During her 8 years at the University of Rochester, Melissa worked in several capacities, including inpatient RN on a cardiac/neurology/ burn unit, and as a research nurse. Melissa worked on several pediatric studies, including studies of the impact of RSV infection in the first 2 years of life, psychosocial influences on vaccine efficacy and immune response in adolescents, and the development of the neonatal microbiome. Melissa also assisted with multisite clinical trials in the NICU.

During her graduate studies, Melissa completed a Nursing Fellowship in the University of Rochester Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) program. This fellowship program included intensive clinical experience in the developmental and physical disability clinics in the division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Rochester, as well as classroom learning, community experiences and advocacy training. The experience was life-changing, and has greatly enriched her capabilities as a nurse practitioner working with children with disabilities and chronic illness.

Melissa graduated from the University of Rochester School of Nursing in 2015 with a Master of Science and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification. She is credentialed by the ANCC as a Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Melissa practiced in upstate NY prior to making the move to Texas to join Midland Pediatric Associates.

Melissa enjoys spending time hiking, traveling, and cooking for family and friends. She is the mother of a young son who keeps her on her toes, and fills her days with laughter and love. She enjoys caring for the families in the practice and watching them grow and develop from infancy into adolescence.
