W. C. Watson, III MD

Dr. Watson was born in Texas and is a fifth generation Texan. His boyhood dream was to attend the US Air Force Academy and become a fighter pilot. This ambition was thwarted by vision issues, however, he was then inspired to pursue medicine as a career by his best friend's father.

He graduated high school in Uvalde, TX in 1968 and then attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science. He graduated in 1974 from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He then volunteered for the U.S. Navy and served 5 years active duty. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. His time in the military reinforced a keen interest in history, particularly World War II.

After returning to Texas, Dr. Watson established his independent practice in Midland in 1982. He formed Midland Pediatric Associates in partnership with Dr. John Foster, Sr. when they recruited Dr. Samuel Macferran to join them in 1986. Dr. Macferran and Dr. Watson were classmates at Southwestern University (and Dr. Foster was also a Southwestern Graduate). Although he physician membership of MPA has varied over the years, Dr. Macferran and Dr. Watson have remained the core.

Dr. Watson feels that it is a privilege to be a part of kids' lives and to be a positive contribution. It can often be overheard, "It's fun to watch babies grow into young adults, and to see those adults come back with their kids."

He lives by the philosophy, "Do the best you can everyday."

Dr. Watson has one son, John Watson, who is a teacher in Thailand. He has lots of interest. He loves vintage cars. His current collection includes a 1956 Ford Thunderbird, 1950 F1 pickup truck and a 1944 Willys Jeep. He enjoys his horses and dogs, reading and pyrotechnics.

Dr. Watson has been Chief of Staff at Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH), and he is currently on the board of Trustees at MMH. He has also served on the Infection Control Committee, Allied Health Professional Committee, Quality Control Committee of the MMH Board of Trustees, as Chief of Pediatrics and Chair of the Department of Medicine. He is a member of the Physicians Advisory Board of Health Care Coalition of Texas. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the Texas Pediatric Society (TPS), the Midland County Medical Society and holds an American Board of Pediatrics permanent certificate.
